Assessment of Job Burnout and its Relationship with Selected Demographic Variables among Jihad-e Keshavarzi Organization Specialists in Kurdistan Province

Abstract

Employee job burnout is one of the interesting topics of human resource management researchers and is one of the important factors for predicting and understanding organizational behavior. The purpose of this study was to assess the job burnout situation of Jihad-e Keshavarzi Organization specialists in Kurdistan province. The research method was descriptive and survey. The research sample was 220 specialists of Jihad-e Keshavarzi Organization in Kurdistan province, who were selected using stratified random sampling with proportional to size. Data were collected using the Maslach’s burnout questionnaire. Content and face validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by a panel of the experts of agricultural extension and education and specialists of Jihad-e Keshavarzi Organization in Kurdistan province. The Reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by calculating Cronbach’s alpha for different variables between 0.80 to 0.83. Based on the results, the degree of job burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment) were moderate comparing with the Maslach’s scale. Among the demographic variables, there were negative and significant relationships between age and working years with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Result of T-test showed that there wasno significant difference between job burnout of male and female. However, the single specialists reported higher emotional exhaustion and depersonalization comparing with the married specialists. In addition, there were no significant differences between the managers and specialists, and between specialists with different educational levels. Based on the research findings, some recommendations were presented to reduce the specialist’s job burnout.
