English

Environmental degradation is one of the fundamental global challenges, particularly in developing countries. Unsustainable agriculture is considered one of the most significant factors exacerbating this degradation, a process accompanied by ecosystem deterioration and the depletion of natural resources resulting from human activities. Although the physical consequences of environmental degradation have been well documented, its psychological effects on individuals and communities require further investigation. Observing habitat destruction and biodiversity loss, as well as experiencing natural disasters, can evoke feelings of helplessness, grief, or anger. This study aimed to analyze the intention toward maladaptive environmental behavior driven by anger among agricultural operators, utilizing Protection Motivation Theory (PMT). The present research is a descriptive-correlational study, with data collected through a questionnaire-based survey. The statistical population comprised agricultural operators in Lorestan Province, Iran. The sample size was determined to be 384 individuals using Cochran’s formula; to ensure reliability, 400 questionnaires were administered, of which 390 valid responses were ultimately analyzed. A stratified multistage sampling method was employed. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used for data analysis. The results indicated that perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, response efficacy, and self-efficacy had significant negative effects on the intention toward maladaptive environmental behavior driven by anger. Conversely, response cost had a significant positive effect. Ultimately, the structural model demonstrated that the predictor variables accounted for 46% of the variance in the intention toward maladaptive environmental behavior driven by anger among farmers.
